Wolf Tracks on Ice
During a mid-March one year, I was base-camping on the North Fork of the Koyukuk River in Gates of the Arctic National Park & Preserve with a park ranger and his nine-dog team. We stopped to give the dogs a rest, so I walked around on the ice, exploring for photo opportunities. I discovered this set of prints, caused when a wolf walked on thin snow that was compacted, and wind blew away the loose snow later. It was unlike anything that I had ever seen before. As I photographed it, I increasingly thought about the story behind the creation of this set of prints.
This image won the “Environmental Issues” category for the 2010 Windland Smith Rice International Awards. My narrative with my submission for the competition referenced the State of Alaska's aggressive war against wolves through its unscientific predator control program. I mused that someday one might not even be able to see wolf prints at all. As part of the exhibition, the print hung at the Smithsonian Institute's Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. Artist Print

Carl uses thick, high quality fine art paper for all of his Artist Prints. These prints are made personally by the artist up to the 16x24 size, then by a professional lab for larger sizes. Printed on sheet paper, or roll paper for panoramic prints, these prints are printed to full size with the excess paper trimmed down to a small border around the image. This provides for a sufficient edge for your framing shop when it comes time to frame your print. Larger prints are shipped rolled to minimize damage and reduce shipping costs.
Metal Print

Metal prints represent a new art medium for preserving photos by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum sheets. Because the image is infused into the surface and not on it, your images will take on an almost magical luminescence. The ultra-hard scratch-resistant surface is waterproof/weatherproof and can be cleaned easily – just avoid direct sunlight. The prints are mounted on a floating mount for ease of hanging. These prints are shipped directly from a professional lab for lower shipping costs.
Lumachrome Museum Plus

The Lumachrome print is a three-part process, with a color transfer applied to a paper material, then covered with a 1/8-inch thick acrylic face. The acrylic is coated with a P99 Non-Glare UFA 95% UV protection surface. It also includes a 3mm Comatex protective backing for edge protection and a 3/4 inch floating frame* for hanging. The print is archival quality with a 120-year life. Prints are shipped directly from the lab for lower shipping.
*Larger prints are backed with a Heavy Duty Roma rear frame.
