The phrase "water is life" is used in a variety of ways, from expressing peace to promoting conservation of scarce water resources. At one point in my photography career, I realized that a lot of my landscape images contained various elements of water. It certainly makes sense. Some 71% of the planet's surface is covered with water. In Alaska, we have over 6 million lakes, a hundred thousand glaciers, and countless rivers and streams. Water provides habitat, it allows for transportation, it shapes the land, and sometimes even changes boundaries.
